Day 3 of SSAweek & my crochet-a-thon to raise money for the Secular Student Alliance! You can look at (and even bid on, if you’d like) day one and day two because they are still up for auction! As of right now, there is $132 going to the SSA. :D

Today’s item is known as the ‘happy atom’ and is the mascot of one of the more well-known Secular Student Alliance affiliates, the Alabama Atheists & Agnostics. Douglas Weathers is the man behind the design and SSA Regional Campus Organizer Gordon Maples has popularized the design by spamming (lovingly) it everywhere including his head. 

I’m happy to have this as one of the items for SSAweek, mostly because I appreciate all the work that Gordon has done, first as an SSA affiliate leader and now as staff. He founded SECAA (Southeastern Collegiate Atheist Alliance) which has just exploded with interaction among southern SSA affiliates. It’s almost become TOO big, which is pretty fantastic. Now that Gordon is staff, he can come visit me in South Carolina and help out with keeping SSA affiliates alive and going strong. I’m excited that he’s on staff, to say the least.
